The Durham Alano Club (DAC) is a 501© 3 non-profit corporation dedicated to serving individuals and families who are recovering from the disease of alcoholism.
NO! The Durham Alano Club is not affiliated with the programs of Alcoholics Anonymous or Al-Anon Family Groups.
The DAC provides a comfortable facility for AA, Al-Anon and Alateen groups to conduct meetings each week. The club also provides meeting space for special fellowship events such as workshops, speaker meetings and book studies. The DAC also has an active Social Committee that plans events for its members and the fellowship, such as potluck dinners, dances, and picnics.
No. Anyone may attend any of the AA, Al-Anon or Alateen meetings held in the DAC meeting rooms. Only DAC members and their guests may use the Members’ Lounge.
Any current member of AA, Al-Anon, or Alateen is eligible to become a DAC member.

Membership dues are one of the ways the DAC raises the funds required to keep the doors open and provide its services to members of AA, Al- Anon and Alateen.

DAC members receive their own coffee mug and have access to the member’s lounge. From time to time there will be social events for members at no cost or at a discounted cost. DAC members may serve on the Board of Directors, vote on issues concerning the Club and serve on various committees. This is OUR Club!

Joining is easy. Just fill out the membership form provided on the back of the membership pamphlet, available on the website (Join Now) or at the Club, and either mail it to our post office box or give it to a Board or Advisory Board member along with your dues payment. Regardless of the payment plan a reminder notice will be sent to each member.
Complete a Meeting Time Application (available here or from a Board member). Mail to PO Box 51313, Durham, NC 27717, drop it off at the DAC or give it to a Board member. The meeting or fellowship event application request for is reviewed at the following month’s Board meeting.

The membership lounge is for Club members and their guests.
There is a “No Smoking” policy that applies to the entire property; the facility and campus are non-smoking.
No unsupervised children will be allowed. Check with meeting chairpersons to determine if a meeting is open to children.
Pets are not permitted in the Club House unless the pet is a “service animal”.
The parking area of the 400 Crutchfield Street Building, where the Alano Cub is located, is divided into two sections, one in front of the building and one in the rear of the building. It is OK to park in either area but we ask that if you can, when the lot is nearly full, please park off property so that other tenants/businesses in the building and individuals who may have trouble walking can utilize these parking spaces. Parking may be especially challenging during the weekday noon meeting because of the other businesses in our building; please consider parking somewhere close and walking across the street to help alleviate that challenge and again be respectful of our neighbors.

  4. No illegal activity in any form will be allowed. This includes, but is not limited to, communication of threats, physical violence, use or sale of illegal drugs, gambling or harassment.
  5. Alcohol is not allowed in the Club House.
  6. No firearms are allowed in the Club House.

Violation of Club Rules, at the discretion of the Board of Directors, may be grounds for suspension or revocation of membership.

  1. Pay agreed upon rent, by enclosing it in an envelope, writing the meeting or group name on it, and dropping it into the safe, located in the club office. Rent is due depending on the option chosen by the group/meeting:
    a. Monthly fixed price meetings pay rent by first meeting of the month.
    b. Percentage price meetings pay 75% of the basket after each meeting
  2. Come at least 1/2 hour before meeting time to setup and make coffee.
  3. Clean up the kitchen, lobby and meeting room after each meeting.
  4. Check for and clean up trash and cigarette butts in the designated smoking area and around the outside of the club house.
  5. Before and after each meeting, return clean cups to the members’ cup peg board or kitchen cabinet.
  6. Before and after each meeting, load the dishwasher with dirty cups, and run dishwasher if full, or wash cups by hand if dishwasher is not available.
  7. Maintain control of the group key (do not copy.).
  8. Turn off all lights, set heat to 62 degrees (winter) / air conditioning to 78 degrees (summer).
  9. Lock all doors (4) when you leave.

  1. Before and after each meeting, return clean cups to the members’ cup board or kitchen cabinet.
  2. Before and after each meeting, load the dishwasher with dirty cups, and run dishwasher if full, or wash cups by hand if dishwasher is not available.
  3. Coffee Brewing Instructions:
    A. Remove funnel.
    B. Insert a coffee filter into the funnel.
    C. Pour the contents of a fresh coffee packet into the filter and level the bed of grounds by gently shaking.
    D. Slide the funnel into the funnel rails.
    E. Place an empty decanter under the funnel.
    F. Place the bottom warmer switch in the lighted position.
    G. Momentarily press and release the start switch.
    H. When brewing is completed, discard the grounds and filter, and move the decanter to the top warmer.
    I. Turn off warmers when not in use.
